The Hook
Started P18. Finished P18. In between: a wall-kiss right off the line, a handful of spins, and a Porsche 911 Cup that wanted to take flight over the Climbing Esses on every single lap. It was also my first race on the new triple-screen setup — and despite all the chaos, it was one of the most fun returns to the iRacing Porsche Cup I’ve had in a long time.

Qualifying & Start
I lined up P18 — not where anyone wants to start, and an honest reflection of how much seat time and race-day prep I still owe this car. No excuses: getting practice in before race day is the lesson that keeps coming back. But the goal this time wasn’t a result. It was simple — finish, have fun, and learn the track under green-flag pressure.
The Race
It went sideways immediately. Off the line I got it wrong, kissed the wall, and dropped into the runoff before I’d even settled into the seat. Back on track, regrouped — and then did it again. And, I think, once more after that. A few offs, a couple of spins. On paper, a mess. In the cockpit? I was grinning the whole time.
Because VIR is wild. Through the Climbing Esses the Porsche was getting genuinely airborne over the crests — every single lap it felt like the car wanted to take off and fly. On the D-BOX motion platform that my whole rig is built around, the sensation was unreal: the float at the top, the drop, the snap of the rear as the tires touched back down. You feel it in your stomach. Absolutely glorious.
This was also my debut race on the new triple-screen setup, and I’m beyond happy with it. The peripheral vision, the sense of speed, the spatial awareness through fast direction changes — it just works. For a track that throws blind crests and quick transitions at you, the wraparound view is a total game-changer for immersion.
One catch, and it’s a good lesson for anyone running motion under triples: mid-race, the D-BOX shook my Sim-Lab Vario VESA mounts loose and both side monitors slid down about a centimeter. So much for “motion-proof” 😅 — threadlocker gets its moment tomorrow. Lesson logged, and a good reminder that a motion rig stresses every bracket harder than a static one.
The back half is where it got fun in the racing sense. For about five laps I was glued to the gearbox of the car ahead — he tested every nerve I had before I finally made the move stick. And earlier in the race I pulled the overtake I’m proudest of: a clean dive up the inside into Turn 2, sent it, made it stick. Mid-pack, messy, but full of genuine wheel-to-wheel action from green to checkered.

Final Thoughts
P18 to P18 isn’t a result anyone frames on the wall. That’s fine — it’s not what I came for.
What this race confirmed: the fun is endless. Spins, wall-kisses and all, this was action from the first corner to the last, and exactly the kind of race I think my viewers will enjoy watching because of the chaos, not despite it. The D-BOX turning the Climbing Esses into a genuine stomach-drop is the kind of thing you can’t fake on a static rig.
What needs work: my race craft, plainly. More prep, more clean laps before race day, fewer unforced offs. That’s not talent — that’s reps, and reps are the easy fix. And the triple-screen setup is an absolute keeper. It just needs threadlocker on those Vario mounts so the next race doesn’t slide out from under me.
First triple-screen race: a blast. More to come.
