My Sunday Drive in the iRacing Ringmeister Series – Nürburgring Nordschleife with the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup
Welcome to my latest adventure in iRacing, set on one of the most iconic tracks of all – the Nürburgring Nordschleife! This time, I went back to my roots and took out my trusted Porsche 911 GT3 Cup for a “Sunday drive.” After struggling in the GT3 series with the McLaren 720S, where frequent penalties and a massive iRating drop became all too common, I decided it was time to change things up. I couldn’t resist the pull of my favorite combo: the Nordschleife and my beloved Porsche Cup.
Starting with a Different Approach
For this race, I wanted to avoid the typical incident points and maybe even bring up my rating. Instead of a competitive sprint, I planned for a relaxed run, a true Sunday drive, beginning from the pit lane. Although I was given a starting position of 14th out of 26, that didn’t matter since I rolled out of the pits as car number 2. The Strength of Field was 1981 – not ideal after losing 500 iRating points in previous races. So, my main goal here was to focus on a clean race, though things didn’t exactly go as planned.
When the Calm Drive Turns Chaotic
The reality in lower SoF races is that even minor touches can seriously harm your Safety Rating. In my previous race at Nürburgring in the Porsche Cup, I ran clean from the pits and even made it to 10th. However, a small bump right at the end cost me SR points.
This race was equally eventful. Crashes seemed inevitable, with drivers around me missing racing lines and braking unpredictably. For the first two laps, I kept my pace steady, enjoying the iconic Nordschleife. But halfway through lap 2, things took a turn. The chaotic driving in front of me left me feeling that it was time to pick up the pace a bit. Unfortunately, even with a careful approach, accidents were hard to avoid.
Navigating the Rating Dilemma
It’s a strange paradox: when I drive for Safety Rating, I lose iRating and end up in SoF classes where the quality drops and accidents become more frequent. It’s a frustrating cycle, and I’m still figuring out how to escape it. But in the end, I hope you find this race entertaining! The Nordschleife never disappoints, and watching the chaos from the back of the pack had its moments.
